Victor Gontier’s Calvados Domfrontais 2013

Calvados is Normandy’s traditional apple brandy, but in the Domfrontais appellation, pear juice is part of the blend – adding softness and ripe, perfumed aromatics to the final spirit.

Victor Gontier, a third-generation farmer and distiller, produces small-batch Calvados of exceptional depth. This 2013 bottling offers stewed pear and confit apple on the nose, with toffee and a hint of galangal spice on the palate, finishing with a lingering warmth.

Its crisp apple and pear notes go beautifully with soft cheeses, or with warm apple desserts such as tarte tatin or our apple and caramel chausson.
